When entering or leaving the Republic of Korea, all travelers must comply with customs regulations regarding prohibited and restricted items. Violations may result in confiscation, fines, or criminal penalties under Korean law.


🚫 Prohibited Items

The following items are strictly forbidden from being brought into or out of Korea:

  • Materials (books, videos, images, etc.) that threaten public order or national security
  • Classified government or intelligence documents
  • Counterfeit money, forged documents, or fake securities

Note: Prohibited items will be immediately confiscated and legal action may follow.


⚠️ Restricted Items

The following items may be brought into Korea under limited conditions and require declaration or approval:

  • Weapons (including replicas, decorative swords, firearms)
  • Explosives, gunpowder, flammable materials, and toxins
  • Illegal drugs (e.g., marijuana, cocaine, opium)
  • Endangered wildlife and products (CITES): ivory, taxidermy, leather goods, traditional medicines
  • Cash or monetary instruments exceeding USD 10,000 (KRW or foreign currency)
  • Counterfeit or pirated goods (e.g., fake designer items, software)

✈️ Prohibited Items Aboard Aircraft (Aviation Security Act)

Under Korean aviation law, the following items are prohibited from carry-on and/or checked-in luggage on all international flights:

  • Explosives and flammable items (e.g., butane gas, firecrackers)
